An originator is a person who creates or initiates something, often not the holder of the intellectual property. However in any commercial setting it is always a wider group of people that initiate a design, not the architect is insulation and if you are not working for a startup the architect will never create anything really new as all business is risk adverse. Funny enough I have often experienced a group of managers that have cut design back to only include technologies proved for 20 years and tested many times in exact this configuration who later wanted to register the solution as their intellectual property.
Apart from such misguided management decisions the role of the architects creativity is usually in the new orchestration of existing building blocks. As such it is important that the architect is more about agreeing, documenting the design and communicating to it all participants, not really creating anything new.
