Speaking of the TOGAF® Library

I was delighted to attend another one of The Open Group TOGAF® User Group meetings. This one was held in London on April 18, 2018 with great interactions between users of the TOGAF Standard, experts, and staff of The Open Group. Attendees got that chance to Share experiences, be Enlightened by news, and Engage in the development process by expressing needs – i.e. to SEE TOGAF a little differently.

Enterprise Architecture – Getting Started on an Enterprise Architecture Project!

One of the most frequent set of questions I get are about getting started on an enterprise architecture project.  How do we begin? What do we need to do first, third, next? My first reactionto this question is usually “please don’t start by don’t asking the client what they want the Enterprise Architecture to do?” I have seen this and it really puts clients off. For a more constructive response I have directed folk to the TOGAF® ADM and the various guides in the TOGAF® Library. Though usually thankful, that direction begets something like “thanks for that, but I was just wondering if I can get some practical tips right now.” I thought this might be a useful topic for a blog.

The Open Group Open Badges Update – More Than Just a Pretty Image

In September 2017, The Open Group began working with Acclaim, (a division of Pearson VUE, an exam delivery company), to introduce the concept of “Open Badges” to The Open Group IT4IT™ and Open Certified Architect certification programs. Since then, we have been busy – we have now rolled out this program across our entire certification portfolio and as a result have invited everyone with a current certification with The Open Group to participate. This has resulted in over 20,000 badges being issued, with no surprises that the TOGAF®, a standard of The Open Group, badges are the most popular.

The Importance of Enterprise Architecture for Business Transformation: Lessons Learned

In a 2016 blog for The Open Group, we described what really happens when IT is run like a business based upon our recent work at SKF, where we work as Enterprise Architects and IT Strategists. We explained how we became confident to transform the way IT worked with the business to provide value, and what lessons we are learning during our transformation journey. Enterprise Architecture (EA) has been instrumental in that journey, and in this article, we provide some valuable lessons that we have learned on our journey to build an Enterprise Architecture Management (EAM) function to support our digital transformation, and how we used EAM to become and remain relevant during digital disruption.
