Cyber Terrorism Threats & Security in ITS Architecture

By Bingyi Han, Biyu Wu, Quan Nguyen, Rodrigo Camargo and Ignacio Arancibia

Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS), due to their large-scale architectures and pervasiveness in smart city initiatives, are vulnerable to the threat of cyber-terrorism because of the high social impact a disruption could cause. Cases of cyber-terrorism in ITS suggest that even though security threats have been traditionally addressed in a layered manner following the ITS architecture, challenges remain.

In this paper, University of Melbourne, Enterprise Architecture students: Bingyi Han, Biyu Wu, Quan Nguyen, Rodrigo Camargo and Ignacio Arancibia  explore the issues of Cyber Terrorism & Security in Intelligent Transportation Systems Architecture, and propose a transversal cyber-resilience architecture model composed of technical good practice, policies and standards, and organisation and people.
