Why new technology requires non technical orientated architects, but not Business Architects.

For a long time we have seen that a new set of technology is announced and when we are lucky we may actually see it in action decade later. Usually there are a lot of people talking of the potential and some that focus on prototyping it, but what is really always missing is not the business side in of what business architects perform, but someone to make it user friendly and usable.

This lack of usability is also one area where architecture was never strong, the nearest we got was UX architecture, but that was focused as a second thought after business architecture, usually paying the worst rates of any architecture work. UX is usually about screen design and accessibility on a graphical user interface. The UX architects I have met usually all tell the one phrase, which is: A GUI is like a joke, if you need to explain it, it is bad. However we need architects to explore whole ecosystems to make any success. An example was the smart phone where the technology was around a long time to wait for Mr. Jobs. It is neither the business nor the technology architect that will do it. Marketing or Salespeople have not got the knowledge, so we usually wait for an entrepreneur.

Instead of chance it is important and also profitable for an architect to build on usability, as the highest priced patents are those on usability, not those for the underlying technology.
