It is strange to see how many ill fitted attempts of certifications for architects there are on the market. I have just in the last 3 month been approached by at least five certifications on business architecture that were all set up in clear violation of the business architecture of professional trying. Usually these certifications are either attempt to make money or just try to convince others to follow one’s own concept on how things should be done. Usually most of these smaller certifications are also very limited in scope as they have never been run through a proper review process. If you take me as an example who has done architecture in 11 different industries, I have experienced more and more how hard it is to create something that works in more than 4 industries.
But back on certifications. Education follows a basic business process where you have 3 types of main actors that are separate from each other. First you have scientist that will create research, so similar to architects writing books about a subject or publishing articles, frameworks, semantics, etc. Then you have the university or the body that sets the curriculum and the exam. Usually they are called universities for academic education and for vocational trying they differ from country to country, in the UK and most of the Commonwealth it is City & Guilds as an example. However they will span various subjects, very seldom only be specialised on one subject. These are organisations that relate the research to form a representative picture across the area. They are also the people designing the examinations and certification. However they will not teach the subject. Teaching is left to colleges that will offer students the means to pass the tests. If you a more detailed view on the whole business architecture just look download my podcast on the subject.
Now the people that are telling me that I should visit their expertise on business architecture are actually violating this business architecture by trying to be all 3 separating functions in one body. And this is what I call stupidity as they are showing everyone how ignorant they are about their own subject.
