My way into architecture

Most of my articles give little to nothing away of my own personal being. The main factor that drove me to write about myself were the articles where others constantly emphasising on their engineering and military background. Well with me it was very different. First I was born 2 month late with a Cesarian, which is something that is impossible today or even in most counties at the time except in Switzerland. During my birth I got too little or no oxygen for some time, which resulted in a lot of unpleasant disabilities. Additionally I started to grow early and very fast until I was stopped very young at 6 ‘ 6’’, so I also got a bit of wrong growth in the mix. However it was actually not all bad as being a very tall 11 year old means that the kids 6-7 years older will ask you to buy alcohol for them and that I never had problems finding friends even as my parents moved a lot.

The problem however really started in school and later trying to find a job, as I was unable to do any sport, write or key any text in an acceptable speed as to this day I am shaking that much since my birth that it is impossible to read anything I have written (yes nearly ideal as an doctor, but a doctor can read his own writing). The shaking also made it impossible to do any mechanical or practical work. I even was found unfit for accounting as in those days you had to write down numbers. The only positive at the time where good exams and an upbeat spirit. So the first jobs I got into where in the sales area, as sales only really requires a upbeat personality and good knowledge what you selling.

However if you work in sales you will find it not too challenging, so I started to get involved in accountancy, engineering, math, sociology and information technology as add ons. The funny thing is that if you come from another area the missing handwriting and fast typing skills are not really required. After passing grades in all areas I then tried to apply it all and sales actually thought me how to apply different subjects into a new and that is basically how I discovered architecture. So I still describe myself as a guy capable to do many things with the ones I cannot do too clear in front of me. The important thing to remember is just never use any disability as an excuse, instead focus on possibilities, that way you will not only succeed, but you will also grow in being a better architect as you will combine business problems into something workable.
