Government Enterprise Architecture: Beyond Business as Usual for Better Outcomes

Effectuating public service innovation for better citizen outcomes is a culmination of clear vision, enabling policies, efficient modern operations, smarter technology, and measurable goals amalgamated into a holistic construct.  Government Enterprise Architecture is defined as: a whole of government approach to support government ecosystems by transcending boundaries for delivering services in a coordinated, efficient, and equitable manner.

Many governments are revitalizing public administration, overhauling public management, fostering inclusive leadership, and moving their public services to become more efficient, transparent, and accountable.

Everything You Ever Wanted to Know (about Enterprise Architecture)

I created a list of books I would give someone if they told me they wanted to be a good EA. Read all of these and you will be a guru (or more likely an unguru).

AppDev and Integration Major Announcements

I am writing this blog to quickly highlight several announcements that Oracle just made (and it’s not even Open World)!

Oracle just put this press release out on the next Autonomous Cloud services:

  • Oracle Autonomous Integration Cloud
  • Autonomous Visual Builder Cloud

Further, the ability to use Oracle’s Platform for modern Cloud Native application development has takes another big leap forward with these announcements:

  1. Announcing General Availability version of the WebLogic Server Kubernetes Operator  -The Operator, first released in February as a Technology Preview version, simplifies the creation and management of WebLogic Server 12.2.1.3 domains on Kubernetes.  The GA operator supports additional WebLogic features, and is certified and supported for use in development and production.
  2. OKE is GA – (docs) – Oracle Cloud Infrastructure Container Engine for Kubernetes is a fully-managed, scalable, and highly available service that you can use to deploy your containerized applications to the cloud. Use Container Engine for Kubernetes (sometimes abbreviated to just OKE) when your development team wants to reliably build, deploy, and manage cloud-native applications.
  3. OCIR is GA – (docs) – Oracle Cloud Infrastructure Registry is an Oracle-managed registry that enables you to simplify your development to production workflow. Oracle Cloud Infrastructure Registry makes it easy for you as a developer to store, share, and manage development artifacts like Docker images.

Exciting times. The prediction I made about the importance of factoring Artificial Intelligence/Machine-learning into your Enterprise Architecture are becoming more and more true. Luckily, Oracle is helping to make AI/ML a practical reality as it imbues its Cloud Services with intelligence that make them even more impactful to your company or agency’s mission.

Speaking of the TOGAF® Library

I was delighted to attend another one of The Open Group TOGAF® User Group meetings. This one was held in London on April 18, 2018 with great interactions between users of the TOGAF Standard, experts, and staff of The Open Group. Attendees got that chance to Share experiences, be Enlightened by news, and Engage in the development process by expressing needs – i.e. to SEE TOGAF a little differently.

Documenting the Not-known

In our work on simplifying the ‘inventory’ of tools and techniques I’d developed for whole-enterprise architecture and the like, one of the challenges we keep hitting up against is how to capture ideas, information and insights, as they appear during
